Our Proprietary AI Learning PlatformDesigned & built in-house

SVHS builds its own learning technology. Our in-house team of AI and software engineers has built the platform our students learn on: the learning management system, the AI assistants, the editors students write in, the student information system, and the systems that produce our curriculum. We add new capabilities continually, and nearly all of them use AI. Through software, we've been dedicated to building the World's most scalable and efficient school since 2013.

120,000+students educated
60+semester courses in our own curriculum
200,000+hours of software development

One platform, built from the foundation up

Most schools assemble their operations from separate vendors. At SVHS, the systems students, teachers and staff use every day were built by our own engineers and work as one platform, on an enterprise AWS foundation.

Educators and engineers, working as one team

Personalizing education with AI depends on knowing the student. At SVHS, the information that makes that possible already lives in systems we built ourselves.

Educators and engineers, together

For more than a decade, our software engineers have worked alongside our teachers to build the tools our courses run on. The educational insight and the engineering sit in the same organization.

A complete picture of each student

Our student information system holds each student's goals, grades and graduation plan. Our learning management system records how they work through each course: quizzes, tests, assignments and pace.

AI that can act on it

Because students take our courses inside our own platform, write in our own editors, and are enrolled through our own records, our AI can personalize support using real coursework, not guesswork.

This is what allows us to build capabilities such as the Blueprint Knowledge Wall, which shows students what they have mastered block by block and helps them construct knowledge in the right order.

Meet the assistants

Each assistant has a defined role. They support teachers and students; they never replace the teacher. Press play and let them introduce themselves.

Deployed

Sage

AI tutor, in every course

Sage is available in every course, around the clock. She adapts her explanations to each student and tries a different approach until a concept clicks, grounded in the course's own material.

Stuck at midnight? Sage explains it another way — and another — until it makes sense.
Deployed

Sid

AI support

Immediate answers for students, families and educators on enrollment, policies and programs. Chat with Sid on our website, any time.

Deployed

Dot

AI teaching assistant

Dot talks with students about their work in our AI learning activities, then gives the teacher a recommended grade and the reasoning behind it. The teacher always decides.

Rolling Out

Zip

AI pacing coach

Zip keeps an eye on progress and reaches out when a student starts falling behind, so small gaps get closed before they become large ones.

Frankie, the SVHS AI academic advisor
Rolling Out

Frankie

AI college and career guide

Guidance on course selection, graduation requirements and college planning, with secure access to the student's own records.

Ace, the SVHS AI writing coach
In development

Ace

AI writing coach

Real-time coaching on structure, argument and clarity while students write. Ace builds the student's own skill; it never writes for them.

Barni, the SVHS academic integrity assistant
Rolling Out

Barni

Academic integrity

Writing inside our editor, inside our courses, on our learning platform, Barni can track every letter of every word you write.

Learning activities students talk through

Graded activities inside the course, built on conversation rather than recall. Each one below is available now.

Mastery Chat

An adaptive dialogue that gauges how well a student really understands the material.

Debate Chat

Students pick a topic and argue it against an AI counterpart, graded on argument, evidence and reasoning.

Character Chat

Conversations with historical and literary figures, exploring events from a first-person perspective.

Language Chat

Conversational practice with an AI partner in the language a student is learning.

Viva Chat

A short oral exam that confirms a student understands the work they submitted.

Assessments run in our Smart Editor, a secure writing environment with equation entry for math. AI-assisted grading is always reviewed by the teacher, and teachers keep final authority over every grade.

More activities are in development, including a voice-based speaking tutor for our Spanish courses.

Our curriculum, and the systems that build it

Our curriculum is a large part of our intellectual property: more than 60 standards-aligned semester courses, developed and kept current with production systems our engineers built.

CourseBuilder

In production

Our AI-assisted course-development platform. It produces standards-aligned curriculum, lesson plans, quizzes and instructional video at scale.

Scribe

In production

The writing engine inside CourseBuilder, generating instructional content in volume for our curriculum team to review.

BotBuilder

In production

The platform that builds and deploys our AI assistants. Built for our learning platform, it now runs assistants on websites outside education too.

VideoBuilder

In production

In-house AI video production for courses, with presenters who keep the same look and voice from one course to the next.

Knowledge engine

Available now

Retrieval technology on AWS that grounds every assistant in SVHS's own content, so answers are accurate and specific to the course.

Progress dashboards

Available now

Role-based views for students, teachers and supervisors, fed by a central data lake and built to surface students who need help early.

The systems that run the school

SVHS also built the software it operates on: the student information system, an in-house CRM for admissions, graduation planning with invoicing, automatic enrollment on purchase, and daily grading reports for teachers. Owning these systems is what connects a student's enrollment, coursework and progress in one place.

What we're building next

New capabilities are added continually, and nearly all of them use AI. The largest current effort is a living map of what each student actually knows.

Blueprint Knowledge Wall

In development

Shows a student's mastery block by block, foundations first, so students can see their knowledge being built and what comes next.

KnowledgeBuilder

In development

AI learning hubs for courses and test prep, pairing each student with Sage against a complete blueprint of the syllabus.

Mastery Tracker

In development

Designed to judge mastery from several kinds of evidence, with the teacher in charge of every grade.

The approach is grounded in established learning science: constructivism, from Piaget and Vygotsky, and Bruner's spiral learning, where students return to ideas at increasing depth.

Engineered for scale

Moodle was designed for single institutions. We containerized it, re-architected its busiest pages and built data-access layers for very large content libraries, so one platform can serve hundreds of thousands of students across many schools.

SVHS owns its applications, AI layer, builders and curriculum. They run on an enterprise AWS foundation under a formal AWS technology partnership, announced in November 2024, with a dedicated AWS engineering team.

  • Serverless and elastic. Capacity scales automatically, with near-100% uptime.
  • Disaster recovery. Automatic failover, security updates and continuous monitoring.
  • Security controls. Encryption at rest and in transit, role-based access, and protection against large-scale attacks.
  • Per-school data isolation. Every school's data is kept separate from every other school's.
  • White-label by design. Custom domains and iOS and Android apps published under each school's own name.
  • Continuous delivery. Automated build and release pipelines for the live platform.

Built in-house. Licensed out, with our curriculum.

Most schools license their software from vendors. SVHS builds its own, and licenses the platform to other schools together with our curriculum. Around fifty schools run it under their own name through AlwaysOnline, while SVHS manages the technology.
